“How to stop worrying and start living” by Dale Carnegie, Chapter-6: How to crowd worry out of your mind?

When is the last time you didn’t get even a single minute to rest in a day and sometimes you were alone at home and had nothing to do, you started comparing yourself with others and felt defeated. Did you notice something different when you were busy all day?
In the chapter, the author explains how a father recovered from severe depression caused by two tremendous shocks of his life back to back, the man’s girl child died at age of 5 years and when after 10 months they were blessed with another girl-child, she died in 5 days.

The couple was broken and when his son asked him to help him build a boat, he couldn’t disagree with him. It took 3 hours to build that boat and in those 3 hours he felt relaxed for the first time in the last 1 year, he discovered that when he is indulged in work all the worries escaped his mind.

As psychology has proven that a human brain can concentrate on one type of task only (You can’t think of a pink elephant simultaneously planning for a trip). In the same way, all the worries will escape when you are 100% into work.

As there is a phrase in Hindi “Khali Dimarg Shetaan Ka Ghar” (Empty mind, devil’s house)

When I was in CA. Intermediate during Covid lockdowns, I learned about this concept when I used to finish my classes early and had no work to do, all kinds of worries used to conquer my mind.

But when I prioritized my exercise, work and family time, and used to be more productive and lead a happy day.

Remember to be so absorbed in work that your brain has no time to worry.
